Place of Nagoya.The city of Nagoya is at the center of the Nagoya zone which is one of three major economic zones in Japan.  It is surrounded by a concentration of industrial zones populated by the manufacturing, automobile, plane, and machinery manufacturing industries. This lead to the development of a thriving commerce and service industry which in turn has added to the convenience of foreign expats living in Nagoya's well-established city. Nagoya is geographically located in the center of Japan.  Due to Nagoya's up-graded transportation infrastructures for land, sea, and air travel, it has become a location from which travel around Japan or abroad is convenient. Nagoya is actively attracting foreign companies in order to increase the international business competitiveness of the area. This helps their office establishment as well as aiding in providing expats with living information.

 

The Greater Nagoya area offers various advantages to the quality of life such as reasonable rent, the convenience of its location, and a comfortable commuting time. The average land cost for housing there is 17% of that in Tokyo and 37% of Osaka. The average home there is 50-70% larger than in Tokyo or Osaka and desirable to foreign families. The average commuting time there is 38 minutes (Tokyo 53 minutes, Osaka 49 minutes.) The City of Nagoya has an international school offering classes in English (Nagoya International School.) Free of charge consultations about everyday living and laws, in various foreign languages, are provided at Nagoya International Center (NIC) and Aichi International Plaza. There are also many hospitals and medical facilities that offer services in foreign languages in the city, allowing non-Japanese residents are able to comfortably to live there.

 

Around the city of Nagoya various carefully preserved historical, cultural, and natural heritages attract many tourists every year. The Nagoya area was the stage for Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, and Ieyasu Tokugawa who were 3 famous Samurai commanders during the Sengoku period. There are still castles and historical landmarks from that period remaining in Nagoya. Not too far for a weekend visit, when coming from Nagoya, are Shirakawago and Kumano Kodo, which are famous World Heritage sites, and Ise-Jingu Shrine, which is an old Japanese shrine with spiritual significance.
